The Class 37 is a commonly used Type 3 Diesel Locomotive used for Freight and Passenger rail services across the United Kingdom, and was originally designed and built by English Electric for British Rail between 1960 to 1965.
There were originally 309 things originally built with 66 still in service, and 35 preserved as heritage locomotives.
They were originally designed by English Electric, with units built by
- English Electric Vulcan Foundry, Newton-le-Willows, Lancashire
- Robert Stephenson and Hawthorns Ltd
They were originally fitted with an English Electric 12CSVT Diesel that pumped out 1,750bhp to power the Generator and Traction Motors.
