On Monday evening I popped down to Grosmont to try catch my favourite locomotive 55009 Alycidon + a bunch of other diesels leave the NYMR in a convoy after this weekend’s diesel gala.

Last weekend while perusing my social media timelines I spotted a clip posted to one of the Facebook Groups/Pages of a Class 70 Diesel Locomotive in old style Freightliner livery pottering around in the US with a pair of American locomotives.

I got a number of opportunities to photograph one of my favourite locomotives types in 2012, the Class 55 Deltic (most of the footage being lost to a HDD failure a few summers later).
Included was an attempt at using the panoramic mode on my best digital compact, and now I’ve got a new plugin here on the blog for displaying panoramic shots thought I’d take the opportunity to test it out with a picture recovered from a now defunct extra webhosting package I had for one of my previous website projects. The last few years have made it rather awkward to be able to get around and create video content for this website’s channels on well known popular video sharing websites.
First my own car had issues with it’s MOT in 2019 (and I still haven’t been able to afford to fix the thing), then after about 15-months of having to leg it everywhere again finally taking charge of my Dad’s car to get around, only to still not being able to get around much ‘cos of the dratted freak-out over the virus. Spotted this around 4:40pm Monday (2/March/2020) while I was wandering into town….
I didn’t have my good cameras with me at the time, so I had to make do with my knackered old iPhone 3GS to bodge these few shots in the fading light.
This latest addition to the LocomotivesUK Youtube Channel features all the footage I managed to piece together of LNER A4 60007 (4498) Sir Nigel Gresley over a period of years from 2002 until 2015.
There was one clip missing, likely lost in the Seagate hard drive failure, but it wasn’t all that brilliant to begin with. One evening in April/May 2008 I caught a glimpse of it doing a trial run to Whitby and back prior to the runs featured in this video which did survive.
The opening 3 still images were taken at Pickering Station on 14th April 2015, a couple of months before that Seagate Hard Drive problem I keep mentioning. On the 28th of August 2018 I made an impromptu follow-up visit to Grosmont with my Fuji F550EXR.
I wasn’t originally planning on going there, but I’d picked up a few items in town while I was down there for a “picnic” to sit outside somewhere to eat, and as all my usual spots to sit and eat in Whitby were packed with tourists I decided to pop down to Grosmont with it.
While there I took the opportunity to try grab some footage to create some content, and slightly over a year later, I’ve finally got round to editing and uploading it into a video.
It took me much longer than originally planned to edit it – 364 days 17hours 21minutes since I took the first still image of the trip through to when the finished video clip was done rendering and ready to upload, to be precise – but I finally did it.
On Thursday 2nd August 2018 I popped round to Grosmont in my car to have a quick play with my camera. I originally only planned to stay a short while once I got there at 1:47pm (that’s if the clock on my camera was right), but ended up staying until 3:20pm instead.
I took this footage on the morning of 6th July 2018 while trudging back from capturing footage from the Cook 250 Event going on in the town the same morning.
I only really caught a very short clip of video footage as the locomotive wasn’t really doing much other than sitting at the platform producing steam, but I also caught some fairly decent still images I was able to drop into this video to help pad it out a bit.
